"The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale"
This resonated with me because the body is so versatile that we collect information without thinking about it. There are at any time a whirlwind of emotions that alter how we see the world. This picture took was of my friend right after he was told his Student Visa was expired and that he would be deported soon. This mans face has a certain "scale" to that allows others to gauge the types of things hes feeling now.
"The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the three dimension into the miniature that which can be enveloped into the body"
This cup which i got freshman year of college holds pieces of my child hood. Within I put my back home collection of small shells and pieces of coral i found as a kid playing on the beach in Delray Beach. My family was pretty busy most of the time buton the rare occasions we would go to the beach together i would always come home with one shiny new shell.
Nostalgia can not be sustained without loss.
This collection of photos is of my Grandmother, Beverly or as we called her since diapers, Nana. My grandmother passed away when i was in middle school and i can still remember my grandfather tell me those sad sad words. But its because i loved her so much that now that shes gone i still cant help but think about her and all the wonderful and amazing things shes done for my life.
"To have a souvenir of the exotic is to posses both a specimen and a trophy"
This phrase resonated with me because when I look at this picture see triumph. This photo was taken at a party with friends, there my friends saw a pineapple and my friends, knowing how much I loved them show'd me where to find it. The next thing I know my friends and i where running down the street from the owner of the pineapple and the police. Nobody was harmed or incarcerated in the taking of this picture.
"The souvenir reduces the public ,the monumental, and the three dimensions into the miniature that which can be enveloped into the body."
The small and mini and be transcribed onto the body as well. Tattoos are a way for people to to remember their fondest memories or transcribe an event into skin. Taking a souvenir onto ones body is the ultimate way to permanently a memory in ones mind and body.
