Masked Identity Final

For this project i wanted to create an object that entices fear, something that could scare someone. I took inspiration from old monster movies, more specifically Godzilla. I choose this because friends of mine would tell me that when we first met i was a scary figure to them. One friend I spend most of my time with now once told me that he thought i looked "sketchy, where as in high school I had tons of friends and would be called a teddy bear in the hallways. So with this project i wanted to illustrate the part of my personality that some deem unapproachable. I choose to use cool colors when mixing with gell. i choose this color pallet because colors enhance and display emotion. while the mask may be physically off putting it is still cool, calm and collect. I choose the empty bottle of Hennessy because it represents the modern Renascence Chalice, The cup of kings that brings overflowing good fortune. I thought this would be symbolic of how our culture today enjoys killing themselves until they are empty just like a bottle.. I took inspiration from Godzilla because while he is a literal monster there are those who see him for the caring protector he is. There is always two sides of a coin and every dawn has their day.

I began by forming a wire structure and connecting a foam board spine. I then cut strips of tracing paper and painted on my mix of gell medium, water, and blue ink.

The image to the left shows me forming the wire mask and measuring if my hair would fit.

The image to the left shows my wire mask after i begun applying the tracing paper that had been coated in gell medium, water and blue ink.
